Painter is an essential building for progressing, it can be first unlocked by completing level 6 and successfully deliver 270 these Cu------ shapes. The more variants of the regular painter can be unlocked by later levels.

It has a purpose for coloring shapes with the input color, but with more complexity on further levels, a combination of different buildings must be used as well.

The normal Painter is the first variant which can be unlocked by completing level 6 and successfully deliver 270 these Cu------ shapes.

It paints the input shape of all layers and quadrants available with the input color on the top (bottom if mirrored). Multi-colored shapes can be made without the quad-painter with the help of cutting and stacking individually.

The Double Painter is the second variant which can be unlocked by completing level 17 and successfully deliver 20k of these CbRbRbCb:CwCwCwCw:WbWbWbWb shapes.

The Double Painter paints both input shapes with a single input color. Coloring is applied to all layers on all quadrants, regardless of the coloring of the shape inputted. Unlike the normal painter, it does not have a mirrored variant.

Double painters allow for double the paint efficiency, with one color painting two shapes. The input shapes can be different, though they both leave through the same output.

The Quad Painter is the third and most complicated variant which can be unlocked by completing Level 20 and successfully deliver 25k of these RuCw--Cw:----Ru-- shapes.

The Quad Painter paints each quadrant of the input shape with one of the four input colors. Coloring is applied to all layers for each quadrant, regardless of the coloring of the shape inputted. The color inputs, from closest to the shape input to the farthest, start with coloring the top right quadrant and go clockwise. Unlike the regular painter, the quad painter does not have a mirrored variant.

Use of the Wires layer is necessary to use quad painters. Each color input has a corresponding wire input, which enables that input if the signal is truthy. Quadrants corresponding to a disabled input will remain whatever color they had before entering the machine. Disabled inputs do not require or use color items from belts.

  • At least one input must be enabled in order for the machine to output anything. In other words, at least one quadrant must be painted in order to output anything.
  • Inputs only care if a signal is truthy (i.e., not zero or empty), not anything about the signal's contents.
    • Color signals are all truthy. An input receiving a red color signal with a green color item on its belt will paint the corresponding quadrant green.
    • Shape signals are all truthy. An input receiving a circle shape signal will paint the corresponding quadrant on a square that passes through the machine.
Quad Painter working example

Quad painter with inputs of white, magenta, cyan, and yellow. the output shows where each color is painted. White top right, magenta bottom right, cyan bottom left, yellow top left.

Trivia[]

  • The regular painter is the only painter that has a mirrored variant.
  • This is one of the two buildings that is required for all levels directly after unlocking it as this is required for level 7+, the other being the stacker for level 11+.
